La situation
The Acacias Hotel is located in the Cavalerie district of Arles; at the beginning of the historical centre when coming from the direction of the railway station. It is therefore possible to reach, within a few minutes on foot, all of the monuments and museums of Arles.
By continuing along the street which passes in front of the Acacias Hotel you will quickly come across (300 m) the ancient Roman amphitheatre, the highlight of Arles heritage. When circling it you will pass the Van Gogh Foundation before being lead to le Théâtre Antique the ancient outdoor theatre. From there, you won’t be more than a few steps from the monumental buildings of La Place de la Republic: the Saint-Trophime church with its roman doors and cloister, the obelisk, l’Hôtel de Ville (Town Hall) and its ‘flat’ vault conceived by Jules Hardouin Mansart, the architect of Versailles.
When exploring around the Hotel Acacias you may prefer to climb the embankment of the Rhone, taking the time to admire the view painted by Van Gogh in his painting “Starry Night on the Rhone”, you could go along to the Reattu Museum and ‘La Donation Picasso’ then onto the Roman thermal baths.
Siding towards the town centre you will come to La Place du Forum, or, by continuing alongside the river, the Museum of Arles and Provence Antique.
